Spirulina power food

Is-Chlorella-a-SuperfoodHaving two vegetarian children I have been looking for the perfect foods to compensate meat, lack of protein and Iron. In my research I found Spirulina.

Spirulina is a source:

Protein: It is considered a complete source of high-quality protein
Vitamin B1:  This vitamin is necessary for the digestion of fats and proteins. It is often taken for increased energy, eye health, brain function and for improving nerve functioning.
Iron: Spirulina is a favorite food for vegetarians and vegans because it is one of the best plant sources of iron.
Calcium: Spirulina is also incredibly high in calcium

Spirulina represents a biomass of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) it was first found in Mexico and India . the Aztecs harvested the algae from Lake Texcoco in Mexico. The native people in Chad, Africa have also used the algae as a primary staple in their daily diet, as spirulina grows naturally and profusely in the pure salt water lakes of the region.

Now it is farmed and more and more so since it is beleived to be the super food of the future. Farmer recreate the original enviroment in which it naturally grows but making pool with the right water temperature, the same amoount of salt and potassium, so I found a farmer near Toulon in the south of France. I needed to be sure that my product was good not over heated to dry since this kills of the benefits. Healthy spirulina  has to be a dark green color .

I met her on the market of Saint Cyr sur Mer and she invited me to see her farm. I could tell that she was passionate about her work . When I got to the farm I saw that it was spotless and I could see that she was dedicated to Spirulina, she  wanted to share all her knowledge and gave me so much info … She produces small quantities and discovered spirulina being a vegetarian herself anf lacking protein and iron , she then left her full time job to start her farm.

The process is to let this biomass enlarge naturally in its enviroment and since it is a micro food to then filter it through the finest net so to leave out everything from small larva to dirt so it is completelly organic no artificial product. It is made into a pate a bit like play do and put through a fine spagetthi press and finally dried slowly never over 60 degrees since this would kill the benefits
