HERE ARE YOUR ALLIES

Thalia dealbata, Salcerella, Papiro, Typha Latifolia and Phragmites.

Phyto-purification has become a solution for natural purification procedures for treating civil watse. It is a solution  small and medium usage which is not connected to sewerage networks.

The system allows  insertion into the environment and in the landscape and  manages irregular pollution loads.

The theory of the phyto-purification treatment function is based on the natural ability of plants to capture oxygen through the leaf structure and conduct them, through the stem, to the roots.

Their surfaces, after just a few months of commissioning the system, is coated in a bacterial film of micro-organisms, the real bodies responsible for the purification process. Depending on the sand or gravel filling used and the technical adjustments used, this manages to be naturally oxygenated, so the bacterial film is extended also on the same sub-layer.

The plants recommended for the storage of this type of system are:

The most commonly used are the Phragmites Australis and the Typha Latifolia

The Phragmites Australis is, however, recommended for a variety of reasons:  low cost, high resistance to atmospheric and polluting agents. This species is very hearty and tends to thrive over others. Therefore, planting it is not recommended in phyto-purification beds where there are other types of plants.

HAUTE COUTURE DE L’ARCHITECTURE

IMG_2262
It was while visiting Marseille more than a year ago, that we had the wonderful opportunity of visiting the Mucem before it became a museum. We saw it as a bare  shell in all its beauty. There is a small bridge that leads  to the roof top. Where there is a terrace surrounded by a wall of  concrete moldings that resembles fine black lace hold out against the sea. We were told by the curator that each molding was a square that then was pieced and balanced  together secured by cables This museum for its architecture is unique and a master piece. The beautiful black concrete branches embrace the environment and the natural elements such as the sea. Architect Rudy Ricciotti managed to bring together the sky, the sea and art in perfect harmony. Though these natural shape which reminded me of beautiful black fine lace, we could see the horizon, there is such refinement in his work.  It is haute couture de l’architecture….IMG_2271IMG_2248

OP ART

OP ARTVASARELY3

OPTICAL ART: VAZARELLI  AIX EN PROVENCE

Hungarian-born French artist Victor Vasarely was one of the founders of the op art (optical art) movement. His work entitled Zebra, created in the 1930s, is  one of the earliest examples of Op-art.

Victor Vasarely developed his own geometric form of abstraction, which he varied to create different optical patterns with a kinetic effect. The artist makes a grid in which he arranges geometric forms in brilliant colours in such a way that the eye perceives a fluctuating movement. This was a major contribution to the development of Op Art..

During the 1960’s and 70’s his optical images became part of the popular culture, having a deep impact on architecture, computer science and fashion. The official spiral-shaped logo of the 20th Olympic games in Munich was designed by Vasarely.

He died in Paris on 15 March 1997.
